Track and Field Compete in Baldy Castillo Invitational – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio-Ian Connor (Sr., Lexington, Ohio/Northmor Local) and Jeff Matcha captured first place finishes as the Buckeyes competed Thursday and Friday in the Baldy Castillo Invitational held at Arizona State University in the Sun Angel Stadium. Connor’s time of 14:22.83 in the men’s 5,000 meter claimed his first place victory. Matcha’s victory came with a provisional mark of 17.81m in the men’s shot put.
Derrick Butler (So. Cincinnati, Ohio/LeSalle) placed third in the men’s 5,000 meter run with a time of 14:25.27. Several other members of the men’s squad displayed strong performances. J.J. O’Rielly (Jr., Dover, Ohio/Tuscarawas Central Catholic) ran to a third place finish in the men’s 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 9:30.09. Drew Carter (So., Solon, Ohio/Solon) earned a second place finish in the men’s long jump with a mark of 7.34m. The men’s team also took two of the top five spots in the men’s hammer throw. Justin Cavinee earned a second placed finish with a mark of 56.26m and Andrew Saurer (Jr., Smithville, Ohio/Smithville) placed fifth with a mark of 53.88m.
For the women, Kati Stevens placed fourth in women’s 3,000-meter run with a time of 10:08.21. Dalanda Jackson (Fr., Shaker Heights, Ohio/Shaker Heights) placed fourth in the women’s 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:00.60. In the women’s shot put, Alexis McCall (Fr., Elyria, Ohio/Elyria) placed fifth with a mark of 14.47m.
