DeVries Leads OSU to a 4-0 Win Over Robert Morris – Ohio State Buckeyes

%^$COLUMBUS, Ohio– Pitcher Kristi DeVries (Fr., Corona, Calif./Corona) was nearly perfect in leading the Ohio State softball team (16-8 overall) to a 4-0 win over Robert Morris in game one of a doubleheader at Buckeye Field.%^$
%^$DeVries carried a perfect game into the seventh inning. With one out in the inning, Robert Morris rightfielder Natalie Aloi became the first Colonial to reach base, hitting a single to left field. DeVries then retired the final two batters on a foul out and strikeout, respectively.%^$
%^$DeVries struck out 13 of the 22 batters she faced and did not issue a walk. DeVries has now struck out 31 batters in her last two starts after fanning 18 in a 6-0 win over Buffalo March 16.%^$
%^$”It would have been nice for Kristi to get the perfect game,” Linda Kalafatis, OSU head coach, said. “That does not diminish what she accomplished, however. You can’t ask for anymore than she gave us today. She was overpowering.”%^$
%^$DeVries helped her own cause, going 2-for-3 with and RBI. Catcher Annie Dedic (So., Yorba Linda, Calif./Fullerton J.C.) added two RBI and designated player Stacy Roth (Jr., Wauseon, Ohio/Wauseon) also added an RBI.%^$
%^$OSU went up 3-0 in the fourth inning and added run in the fifth inning.%^$
%^$Anna Link (So., Yorba Linda, Calif./Sonora) led the fourth off with a single to left field. After Link stole second, she scored when DeVries singled to center field. Jenn Elwell (Jr., Dearborn Heights, Mich./Divine Child) pinch ran for DeVries and moved to second on a base hit to center field by Kristine Himes (So., Bolivar, Ohio/Tuscarawas Valley). Chrissy Fowler (Jr., Utica, Ohio/Utica) drew a walk to load the bases.%^$Dedic put OSU up 3-0 with a single to right center, scoring Elwell and Himes.%^$
%^$In the Buckeye half of the fifth inning, Anna Smith (Jr., Walnut, Calif./Diamond Bar) led off with a single to left field. Smith stole second and was moved to third on a sacrifice bunt. Roth scored Smith with a sacrifice fly to right field.%^$
%^$The win in game one of the twin bill extends OSU’s winning streak to eight
