No. 21 Women’s Tennis Drops Minnesota – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio– In a match that took nearly five and a half hours, the Ohio State women’s tennis team defeated Big Ten foe Minnesota, 7-0. OSU is now 8-3 on the year and 1-0 in the Big Ten. Minnesota falls to 4-2 and 0-1 in the Big Ten. The win was OSU’s 14th straight at home.
In singles, the Buckeyes won all but one match in straight sets. At No. 1 Kristy Dascoli (Sr., Bradenton, Fla.), ranked No. 31 in the nation, posted a 6-2, 4-6, 6-3 victory over Valerie Vladea. Monica Rincon (Jr., Lapeer, Mich.) cruised to a 6-3, 6-3 decision over Amy Thomas at No. 2. and after a slow start Sadhaf Pervez (So., Warren, N.J.) picked up her game to record a 7-5, 6-1 victory over Michaela Havelkova’ at No. 3.
The Buckeyes also swept the doubles matches. At No. 1, Dascoli and Rincon needed little time to dispatch Havelkova’ and Vladea, 8-2, at No. 1. Pervez and Laura Maloney (Sr., Barrington, Ill.) also won 8-2, by besting the duo of Tammy Wang and Jen Howard at No. 2.
The Buckeyes return to the courts Saturday for one of their toughest tests of the season. OSU will face No. 5 Notre Dame at 1 p.m. in the Jesse Owens West Recreation Center.
