Softball Falls to San Diego State, 6-2 – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State softball team (6-4) fell to host San Diego State, 6-2, in game two at the second day of the Campbell-Cartier Classic in Poway, Calif.
Kristi DeVries (Corona, Calif./Corona) allowed four hits in four innings of work, striking out three and allowing just one earned run, but picked up her second loss of the season. With the loss, her record is now 3-2.
The Buckeyes racked up nine hits to the Aztecs four, but could not convert the hits into runs.
After San Diego State took a 1-0 lead in the second, the Buckeyes answered with a run of their own to knot the score in the top of the fourth.
DeVries led the inning off with a single to second base. Jenn Elwell (Jr., Dearborn Heights, Mich./Divine Child) pinch ran for DeVries and was moved to second when Wendy Allen laid down a sacrifice bunt. Two batters later, Sarah West (Jr., Galloway, Ohio/Hilliard Davidson) hit a double to the wall in right center to bring home Elwell.
The tie was short lived, however.
Using one hit and an error, the Aztecs put three runs on the board in the fourth and added two more in the fifth on two hits and an error before Katie Chain (So., North Canton, Ohio/Hoover) came in to relieve DeVries.
Chrissy Fowler (Jr., Utica, Ohio/Utica)collected three hits for the game, including her first career home run, a seventh-inning rope over the left field wall.
The Buckeyes play their final contest of the classic tomorrow, facing Sacramento State at 12:30 (EST).
