Softball falls to Cal-State Northridge, 4-1 – Ohio State Buckeyes

%^$ COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State softball team (4-3) fell to Cal-State Northridge, 4-1, in game one of the Campbell-Cartier Classic, hosted by San Diego State at the Sportsplex in Poway, Calif.%^$
%^$Jenn Link (So.,Yorba Linda, Calif./Sonora) returned to the West Coast swinging away, collecting three hits, including a triple she belted to open the Buckeye third. Two batters later, Kristine Himes (So., Bolivar, Ohio/Tuscarawas Valley) coaxed a walk. After ball four, the catcher threw down the third base line, attempting to pick off Link. Instead the overthrow went to left field, allowing Link to score and give OSU a 1-0 lead.%^$
%^$Kristi DeVries (So.,Corona, Calif./Corona) pitched three hitless innings before giving up a two-run home run to Veronica Lopez in the top of fourth inning after issuing a walk to open the inning. Cal-State Northridge pulled away in the seventh inning. With two outs, the Matadors rallied to score two runs on three hits. Wendy Allen (Fr., Moreno Valley, Calif./Moreno Valley) came in to relieve DeVries and got the final out of the inning.%^$
%^$DeVries was handed the first loss of her young career and is now 3-1 for the season. In 6.2 innings of work she allowed four earned runs on four hits and struck out three.%^$
%^$For the Matadors, pitcher Tanya Ledesma allowed four hits and struck out three.%^$
%^$The Buckeyes face off with Long Beach State tonight at 9 p.m.(EST).
