No. 19 Women’s Tennis Defeated by No. 40 Oklahoma State – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio– The No. 19 Ohio State women’s tennis team faced another setback when they were defeated, 5-2, by Oklahoma State in the consolation round of the ITA National Team Indoors Friday. The event runs from Thursday (Feb. 15) through Sunday (Feb. 18). With the loss OSU is now 0-2 in the tournament with both losses coming to nationally ranked teams. The match was the Buckeyes seventh of the season and was the Cowgirls third of the season.
The Buckeyes won two singles matches. At No. 1 Kristy Dascoli (Sr., Bradenton, Fla.) defeated Maria Phillips, 6-2, 6-4. Monica Rincon (Jr., Lapeer, Mich.) returned to the winner’s circle besting Dominika Olszewska, 6-2, 6-2, at No. 2. At No. 3 and No. 4 Claudia Castro (Jr., Dublin, Ohio) and Laura Maloney (Sr., Barrington, Ill.) played tough, but were unable to come up with victories. Castro lost, 7-6 (6), 6-4, to Kate Vasylyeva. Maloney dropped a three-set heartbreaker to Ashleigh Dolman, 6-2, 2-6, 7-6 (4).
OSU held every doubles match close, but in the end could not pull out any victories. Like her singles match Maloney was involved in another heartbreaking setback. She and partner Sadhaf Pervez (So., Warren, N.J.) were defeated, 9-7, by Linda Faltynokova and Katia Kolodynska at No. 2.
The No. 19 women’s tennis team returns to action Saturday morning to battle No. 8 UCLA. In the tournament UCLA has lost to No. 15 Northwestern and No. 17 Baylor.
