No. 19 Women’s Tennis Falls to No. 7 Pepperdine – Ohio State Buckeyes

%^$COLUMBUS, Ohio– The No. 19 Ohio State women’s tennis team fell to No. 7 Pepperdine, 6-1, in the first round of the ITA National Team Indoors held Thursday (Feb. 15) through Sunday (Feb. 18). With the win Pepperdine advances to the second round and will face No. 3 Duke, Friday. The loss does not mean the Buckeyes will be coming home any time soon. All team’s eliminated from the 16-team field in the first round will be redrawn for team competition Friday and Saturday. OSU’s next opponent has yet to be announced. Both of OSU’s losses this season have come to teams ranked in the Top 10 in the nation. The match was the Waves fourth of the season.%^$
%^$ In singles, the Buckeyes fought hard, but were only able to pull off one upset. At No. 4 Erica Fisk (Fr., Indianapolis, Ind.) won a thriller of a match when she defeated Monika Horvath, 7-6 (5), 7-6 (4). With the win Fisk now leads the team on the year with 14. At No. 1 Kristy Dascoli (Sr., Bradenton, Fla.) staged a rally after being down one set, but was unable to knock off No 14. Ipek Senoglu. Dascoli lost 6-1, 6-7 (4), 6-4.%^$
%^$ In doubles the Buckeyes won one match, but could not break the Waves in the other two to claim the one point. At No. 2 Laura Maloney (Sr., Barrington, Ill.) and Sadhaf Pervez (So., Warren, N.J.) claimed OSU’s lone doubles victory by defeating Dorothee Kurz and Maren Mueller, 8-7. At No. 1, Dascoli and Monica Rincon (Jr., Lapeer, Mich.) fell to the No. 1 tandem in the nation, Senoglu and Paola Palencia, 8-2.%^$
