Women’s Swimming/Diving Closes Homestretch with Oakland – Ohio State Buckeyes

%^$COLUMBUS, Ohio — The Ohio State women’s swimming and diving team closes the season at home with Oakland this weekend. The Buckeyes look to improve their record to .500 on the season.%^$

%^$”This is a very important meet for us with the Big Ten’s coming up. This is the last meet for them to improve their times,” Jeanne Fleck, swimming head coach, said. “It is also important for the team, if we win we will have a 500 season, which is a great improvement from last season,” Fleck said.%^$

%^$”People to look for are Amanda Treleaven, Katie Severson, as well as Camilla Helgesson. These three ladies are improving every weekend,” Fleck said.%^$

%^$Last Weekend for Ohio State%^$Last weekend, the Buckeyes downed Miami (OH), 163-124, in a meet on Friday. The Buckeyes looked impressive, winning 12 of the 16 events. Katie Severson was the most decorated Buckeye, winning the 200 freestyle (1:54.16), 200 butterfly (2:06.24), and 50 freestyle (:24.65). Other winners were Amanda Treleaven winner of the 100 backstroke (:57.80) and the 200 backstroke (2:03.50), and the OSU 200 medley relay team of Treleaven, Johanna Baran, Kristin Sendrowski, and Kristin Sander won with a time of 1:49.34.%^$
%^$On the boards, Natalia Diea swept both the 1-meter dive (180.35) and 3-meter dive (204.75).%^$
%^$Scouting Oakland
%^$The Oakland Grizzlies currently have a dual meet record of 4-2. Last weekend, the Grizzlies were defeated by Michigan State, 137-106. The Grizzlies were the Mid-Continent Conference runners-up last season. Oakland’s head coach is Pete Hovland, now in his 22nd season at the helm.%^$
%^$First meeting for OSU and Oakland
%^$Friday marks the first ever meeting between the Ohio State Buckeyes and the Oakland Grizzlies.%^$
%^$Tuning Up for Big Ten’s
%^$This will be the last “tune up” meet for the Buckeyes before they head to Bloomington, Ind., as Ohio State looks to capture its sixth Big Ten title. The Big Ten Championships will be held at Indiana University, Feb. 15-17.%^$
%^$A New Home
%^$The aquatic program is building a new home. The planning for a new complex has been completed with the design stage well underway. The new facility will feature a 10-lane, 50-meter by 25-meter competition pool that will allow 1,500 spectators a bird’s eye view while seating an additional 1,000 people on the pool deck. Also featured will be a separate diving well with a tower.%^$
%^$The team is hoping to see a picture of what the aquatic center could look like by mid-season. They are still a year away from breaking ground, but hope to have the complex completed between September 2003 and January 2004.%^$
