Women’s Volleyball Defeats Robert Morris 3-0, Faces Cincinnati In NCAA Second Round – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State (26-3 overall) women’s volleyball team, with a 3-0 (30-17, 30-16, 30-16) victory over Robert Morris (29-6) in the first round of the NCAA Championship, has advanced to the second round of the tournament. In the 7 p.m. Saturday match, the Buckeyes will face Cincinnati (23-7), a 3-1 (30-27, 30-27, 17-30, 30-28) winner over Xavier (25-6), in the other first round match held Friday in St. John Arena in front of 1,118 fans. OSU’s Anne Botica (Sr., Windsor, Ontario) had a match-high 15 kills (.400) for the Buckeyes with Stacey Gordon (Fr., Oshawa, Ontario) adding 12 (.208) and Shelly Draeger (Jr., Milwaukee, Wis.) 10 (.333). Karla Barhorst (So., Anna, Ohio) had a team-high four kills for Robert Morris.
Ohio State pounded down 24 kills in game one to three for Robert Morris. Leading the Buckeyes was Gordon and Suzie Stiling (Jr., Glenview, Ill.) with six each. OSU hit .462 for the game to .000 for the Colonials in the 30-17 Buckeye win.
The Buckeyes continued to dominate with a 16 to five advantage in kills in game two. Botica had a game-high six for OSU. The Buckeyes hit .265 for the game to -.096 for Robert Morris, winning the game 30-16.
In game three, OSU collected 16 kills to five for Robert Morris. Botica and Draeger had a game-high four each. The Buckeyes hit .440 for the game to -.138 for the Colonials to capture the match with a 30-13 win.
Ohio State hit .388 for the match to -.074 for Robert Morris. The Buckeyes had a 56-13 advantage in kills and had a six to two margin in aces. OSU gave up 13 service errors to six for the Colonials. Ohio State had a 55 to 22 advantage in digs with Buckeye Gordon recording a match-high 13. Botica added 11 and Nikki Cisco (Sr., Dublin, Ohio) 10. OSU outblocked Robert Morris nine to one with Stiling recording a match-high five blocks on two solo and three assists.
