Men’s Golf Earns Third Top 5 Finish at Gary Koch Invitational – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio–The Ohio State men’s golf team finished fifth at the 2001 Gary Koch Invitational in Tampa, Fla., Tuesday. The Buckeyes shot rounds of 290-292-291=873. Florida, host of the event, finished 26 shots ahead of No. 2 North Florida.
The Buckeyes now have three Top 5 finishes this fall following a fourth-place in the Ping/Golfweek Preview (Sept. 28-30) in Columbus, Ohio, and a fifth-place at the Taylor Made Red River Classic Oct. 8-9 in Dallas, Texas.
Ohio State junior Justin Collins (Ironton, Ohio/Ironton) tied for third place in the individual standings at the Gary Koch Invitational with scores of 68-71-72=211. He led the tournament after the first round with a 4-under par 68 and finished 5-under overall. Senior Jason Oien (Westerville, Ohio/Westerville North) finished 24th with scores of 71-73-77=221.
Florida sophomore Camilo Villegas shot a competitive course record 62 in round two on the Old Memorial Golf Course (par 72, 7,236) to help Florida take over the tournament lead. He won the tournament title with a 207 (73-62-72) ahead of teammate Bubba Dickerson (70-69-69=208).
The Buckeyes are back in action for the final time this fall at the Aztec Invitational in San Diego, Calif., Nov. 5-6. The spring season begins Feb. 9-10 at the Gator Invitational in Gainesville, Fla.
