Women’s Tennis Doubles Team Drops Close Match To No. 10-ranked Tandem – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio-Ohio State women’s tennis players, Monica Rincon (Sr., Lapeer, Mich./West) and Erica Fisk (So., Indianapolis, Ind./Pike) lost their first round doubles match in the consolation draw at the Riviera All-American Championships on Friday. The event is being held in Pacific Palisades, Calif.
Rincon and Fisk, who are ranked No. 33 in the nation, fell to the No. 10 tandem, Carolina Mayorga and Sarah Witten of Kentucky, 9-7. In the fist round of the main draw, Rincon and Fisk fell to Stanford’s No. 16-ranked duo of Lauren Barnikow and Erin Burdette, 8-5.
The Buckeye duo received a wild card berth to this prestigious event by winning the ITA National Summer Championships on Aug. 14 at Indiana University. Rincon and Fisk beat North Carolina’s Kendall Cline and TCU’s Saber Pierce, 8-6, in the final.
The next tournament for the entire Buckeye team is Oct. 25-30 at the ITA Midwest Regional in Madison, Wisc.
