Monica Rincon Defeated At All-American Championships Qualifier – Ohio State Buckeyes

%^$COLUMBUS, Ohio-Ohio State women’s tennis player, Monica Rincon (Sr., Lapeer, Mich./West) participated in the 2001 Riveria All-American Championships qualifying singles draw in Pacific Palisades, Calif. on Tuesday.%^$
%^$In order to advance to the main singles draw a player must win three qualifying matches. Rincon, who is ranked No. 57 in the nation, won her first round match over No. 90 Lara Van Rooyen of Old Dominion , 7-6 (9), 6-4. However, the senior was unable to escape the second round as she was felled by No. 73 Lauren Barnikow of Stanford, 6-4, 6-2.%^$
%^$Although Rincon will not be participating in the main singles draw she will be on the courts for the main doubles draw. She and Erica Fisk (So., Indianapolis, Ind./Pike) received a wild card berth in the doubles bracket. The All-American Championships run from Oct. 11-14. The duo earned the berth by winning the ITA National Summer Championships on Aug. 14 at Indiana University. The tandem beat North Carolina’s Kendall Cline and TCU’s Saber Pierce, 8-6, in the final.%^$
