COLUMBUS, Ohio-After four singles matches and three doubles matches in the span of two days, Ohio State women’s tennis player Erica Fisk (So., Indianapolis, Ind./Pike) wound up on the Lott Courts at the Levy Pavilion on Sunday playing for the singles and doubles crowns at the Cissie Leary Invitational in Philadelphia, Pa.
Fisk advanced to the singles semifinals after winning her first four matches – two of which went to three sets – of the tournament. On her journey she dropped No. 4 seed Alice Pirsu of Penn and No. 9-16 seed Jeanette Cluskey of Richmond. Fisk, a No. 9-16, met No. 5 seed Lara Van Rooyen of Old Dominion in the semifinals. Fisk dropped the first set before regrouping to defeat the 90th-ranked player in the nation, 6-7, 6-2, 6-3. In the finals, Fisk met Old Dominion’s Nataly Cahana, the No. 1 seed and the No. 4 player in the nation. Cahana defeated the unranked Buckeye, 6-2, 6-0.
In doubles, Fisk teamed with Monica Rincon (Sr., Lapeer, Mich./West) to advance to the finals. The duo – ranked No. 33 in the nation and seeded second – received a first round bye before ripping off three consecutive wins for a finals showdown with the No. 1 seed from ODU, Cahana and Ana Radeljevic. The Monarch’s duo, ranked No. 28, won the match, 8-6.
After a strong showing in Philadelphia, the Buckeyes are off until Oct. 11-14 when the team travels to Pacific Palisades, Calif., for the All-American Championships.
