Track and Field Split Squad Finishes Strong at Findlay Open – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio-The Ohio State track and field team took a squad of 10 athletes to compete at the Findlay University Alltel Open Saturday, Jan 27. The field event athletes represented Ohio State well with dominating performances. Alexis McCall ( Fr., Elyria, Ohio/ Elyria) posted a first-place finish and provisional qualifying mark of 49'-0? in the women’s shot put. McCall also captured second place in the weight throw (50'-4?). The men’s squad swept the weight throw, placing four athletes in the Top 6. Andrew Saurer (Jr., Smithville, Ohio/Smithville) captured first -place and a personal best mark of 61’10. 5?. Rusty Azbell (Jr., Lancaster, Ohio/Lancaster) posted third-place and a personal best with a throw of 60'-3?. Teammates Justin Cauinee, (58'-10?) Dan Taylor (Fr., Middlfield, Ohio) (56'-10?) and Jeff Matcha (54’8?) rounded out the Top 6.
In the men’s shot put Matcha threw for a personal best mark of 55’0' and a second-place finish. Taylor followed with a mark of 53'-8? to finish third and Cauinee finished fourth with a season best of 52'-10?.
The Buckeyes will travel to New York, N.Y. for the Millrose Game Feb 3.
