Women’s Volleyball Downs Temple 3-1 To Win Temple Volleyball Classic – Ohio State Buckeyes

Columbus, Ohio – The Ohio State women’s volleyball team captured the Temple Volleyball Classic championship with a 3-1 (15-2, 10-15, 15-5, 15-11) victory over the host Owls (2-1). Behind Classic MVP Katie Virtue (So., St. Charles, Ill./St. Francis) the Buckeyes had five players reach double figure kills with Dana Stearns (Sr., Bexley, Ohio/Bexley) collecting a team-high 17. Also in double-figure kills for OSU was Shelly Draeger (So., Milwaukee, Wis./Wisconsin Lutheran) and Sue Calligaris (So., Palermo, Italy/Liceo Linguistico) with 15 each, Suzie Stiling (So., Glenview, Ill./Glenbrook South) 14 and Erin Treadway (Fr., Dayton, Ohio/Chaminade-Julienne. Owl Alma Kovaci had a match-high 22 kills with Maria Vutskova adding 17.
Ohio State hit a season-high .327 to .209 for Temple. The Buckeyes had a 76-64 advantage in kills and a 15 to seven margin in total blocks. OSU had a six-five edge in ace serves while the Owls outdug OSU 48-46.
Along with MVP Virtue, Calligaris was named to the Classic All-Tournament Team. Other members included Kovaci and Brandy Best of Temple, Jackie Neely of Seton Hall and Laura Roarbacher of Colgate.
OSU continues on the road facing Marshall next Tuesday at 7 p.m.
