COLUMBUS, Ohio- The Ohio State women’s tennis program had players ranked in both the singles and doubles national preseason rankings released today by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association. Kristy Dascoli (Sr., Bradenton, Fla./Bradenton Academy) is ranked No. 33 in singles and No. 8 in doubles with partner Monica Rincon (Jr., Lapeer, Mich./West).
Last season, Dascoli qualified for the NCAA Singles Championships for the third-consecutive time and earned Big Ten Player of the Year honors. She posted an overall record of 29-11 and received a program-best national ranking of No. 32. She enters this season needing only eight wins to become the all-time record holder for singles wins in program history.
Dascoli and Rincon qualified for the NCAA Doubles Championships last season, where they posted an upset-win over the then-No. 8 ranked duo of Lucie Dvorakova and Daria Zoldakova of Texas Christian. The OSU tandem, who began playing together last January, was 20-6 on the season, including a 12-match winning streak.
As a team, the Buckeyes ended the 2000 season ranked No. 23 by the ITA. The first team rankings for this year will be released in January 2001 before spring dual match play begins. Ohio State opens its fall tournament season Sept. 21-24 at the ITA National Clay Court Championships in Baltimore, Md.
