Women’s Tennis Signs Another Recruit – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Head women’s tennis coach Chuck Merzbacher announced the signing of Erica Fisk (Indianapolis, Ind./Pike) to a national letter of intent to attend The Ohio State University in the fall. Fisk joins Lindsay Williams (Beverly Hills, Mich./Birmingham Groves) as the 2000-01 women’s tennis freshman class.
Fisk, who competed scholastically for Pike High School this past season, won team Most Valuable Player honors as a senior. She reached the semifinals of the Indiana state tournament before falling in a third-set tiebreaker and was an all-conference and all-county honoree. She earned rookie of the year honors as a freshman at Brebeuf Jesuit Preparatory.
“Erica is certainly one of the best tennis players in the Midwest and in the country,” Merzbacher said. “She has an all-around game. She is tough off the baseline and can finish the points at the net. We look forward to her making a contribution to the line-up in singles and doubles.”
“I’m really excited to go to Ohio State,” Fisk said. “I’m looking forward to working with such a high-level program and I hope I can make a contribution to the team. I’m ready to work hard and make improvements so that I can help OSU break even higher into the rankings.”
The Buckeyes, who ended the season ranked 23rd in the country, were 18-8 overall and won the first Big Ten regular-season title in program history. The team qualified for the NCAA Championship for the second-consecutive season and recorded the program’s first win in the tournament with a first-round victory over Miami (Fla.).
