Women’s Tennis Announces Team Awards – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State women’s tennis team held its annual year end banquet yesterday to honor its student-athletes.
Kristy Dascoli (Jr., Bradenton, Fla./Bradenton Academy) earned Most Valuable Player honors after an outstanding season in which she ended the season ranked No. 47 in the nation and advanced to her third-consecutive NCAA Singles Championships. She was the 2000 Big Ten Player of the Year and an all-Big Ten honoree. Dascoli posted an overall record of 29-11 to move into third place on the all-time Ohio State singles wins list this season.
Monica Rincon (So., Lapeer, Mich./Lapeer West), a 2000 all-Big Ten selection, earned Most Improved Player honors. She moved from the No. 4 spot as a freshman to the No. 2 position this year, while she compiled a mark of 30-11. Her 30 wins set a program record for victories in a season and she ended the season ranked No. 9 in the Midwest Region. She and Dascoli finished the season ranked 18th in the nation after qualifying for the NCAA Doubles Championships.
Taryn Bowen (Fr., Columbus, Ohio/Upper Arlington) won the Coaches’ Award for her hard work throughout the season. She posted an overall singles mark of 6-19 and clinched the Buckeyes’ upset victory over then-No. 14 Northwestern with a three-set victory at No. 6 singles.
