Merriman Finished Third in the 100-Meter Hurdles at the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State track and field teams finished the 2000 outdoor season with today’s final day of competition at the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Durham, N.C. Donica Merriman (Jr., Trotwood, Ohio/Trotwood-Madison) finished third in the finals of the 100-meter hurdles and Andrew Pierce (Jr., Yellow Springs, Ohio/Yellow Springs) finished sixth in the 400-meter dash finals.
Merriman placed third in the hurdles with a time of 12.92. Winning the event was Joyce Bates of Louisiana State University with a time of 12.85. Merriman entered the finals holding the fastest time in the preliminary (12.84) and in the semifinal (12.83) races.
Merriman won her heat in the 200-meter dash in Wednesday’s preliminary race with the time of 23.43. In Friday’s semifinal race she earned a time of 23.30 (third-place in heat), which wasn’t fast enough to continue onto the finals .
Pierce placed sixth in the 400 with the time of 45.29, his second fastest time of the season (44.87 is his seasonal best). Finishing first in the 400 was Auard Moncur from Auburn University with a time of 44.72. Pierce qualified in the semifinals with the time of 45.34.
A total of six Buckeyes competed in the four-day Championships, which began on May 31. Ian Connor (Jr., Lexington, Ohio/Northmor Local) placed second in Friday’s 3,000-meter steeplechase final with the time of 8:41.16, his fastest of the season. Placing first was Tim Broe from Alabama with the time of 8:39.03. Wednesday, Connor qualified for the final earning the second fastest time of 8:45.24.
Dominque Calloway (Sr., Aurora, Colo./ Denver South) finished her career as a Buckeye on Friday as she placed eighth in the 400-meter hurdles final with a time of 58.99. Calloway qualified for the finals Wednesday earning the fastest time of the semifinals, 56.32, which was also her fastest time of the season. She also ran in the 100-meter hurdles semifinals Friday, but failed to qualify for today’s finals. She placed eighth with a time of 13.15. Thursday, Calloway earned a time of 13.06 in the preliminaries.
Ayanna Reece (Sr., Bronx, N.Y./George Washington) also ran her final race for the Buckeyes on Wednesday in the 400 hurdles semifinal. She earned her fastest time of the season, 58.21, but she didn’t qualify for the finals.
George Hoover (Fr., Erie, Pa./Cathedral Prep) competed in the javelin throw Friday placing tenth in his flight with a throw of 60.48m.
