COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State softball’s Stacy Roth (So., Wauseon, Ohio) was named to the first-team 2000 Great Lakes Region team today. She becomes the first Buckeye since 1994 and the first under head coach Linda Kalafatis to be selected as a first-team honoree.
“Stacy is very deserving of this award,” Kalafatis said. “I have no doubt that she is one of the top catchers in the country and is truly a model student-athlete. As a young player, she has the power, speed and athletic ability to be amongst the All-America ranks.”
As a first-team selection, Roth is now a candidate for All-America honors. The All-American nominations will be announced on May 22.
This season, Roth led the Buckeyes for the second-consecutive season in batting with a .386 overall batting average and runs batted in (67). She was selected as second-team all-Big Ten, even after missing seven conference games because of an undiagnosed illness and ranked second in the conference with 14 RBI and third in batting. She is currently tied for second on the OSU single-season record list with six home runs and notched nine in her career for sixth place on the all-time career ladder.
