Women’s Volleyball Announces Three Recruits For The 2000 Season – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, OHIO – The Ohio State women’s volleyball squad has signed three freshmen for the 2000 season. Heather Whalen (Kalamazoo, Mich./Parchment), Erin Treadway (Dayton, Ohio/Chaminade-Julienne) and Marta Szczygielska (Tongeren, Belgium/OBO – Tongeren) have signed national letters of intent to play with Ohio State.
Whalen, a setter, helped her high school team win the Class C State Championship as a senior. A first team all-state selection, her squad was ranked No. 1 all season. Treadway, an outside hitter, was the Division II Player of the Year in 1999 advancing her team to the state regional semifinals. Szczygielska, an outside hitter, has played for the Isola Club in Tongeren. Her team won the Belgium Cup in 2000 and has been a four-time finalist for the Belgium Championship.
Ohio State was 17-12 overall last season and finished fifth (10-10) in the Big Ten Conference. The Buckeyes participated in its 11th-consecutive NCAA championship last year. OSU lost five seniors from the squad last year including starting outside hitters Jen Flynn (Pittsburgh, Pa./Baldwin) and Rosie Snow (Colorado Springs, Co./Thomas B. Doherty).
