Kristy Dascoli Named Big Ten Athlete of the Month – Ohio State Buckeyes

%^$COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State women’s tennis player Kristy Dascoli (Jr., Bradenton, Fla./Bradenton Academy) has been named the Big Ten co-Women’s Tennis Athlete of the Month for April, the conference office announced. Minnesota’s Kim Simonsen shared the honor with Dascoli.%^$
%^$Dascoli, who plays at No. 1 singles for the Buckeyes, has won her last 12 matches, including a perfect 7-0 in April. With the winning streak, she improved her season record to 27-9 overall and a perfect 9-0 in Big Ten play. Dascoli is currently ranked No. 37 by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association, the highest ranking among all Big Ten players.%^$
%^$Dascoli was also undefeated in doubles play during April, as she and partner Monica Rincon, ranked No. 43 by the ITA, went 8-0 at No. 1 to move their record to 16-5. The duo has won its last eight-consecutive matches.%^$
%^$With a career singles mark of 71-32, Dascoli is in third place all-time on the career singles wins list at Ohio State. She needs nine victories to move into second place and 11 wins to become the program’s all-time leader in that category. She also ranks 10th in career doubles wins with 63.%^$
%^$The Big Ten Champion Buckeyes will compete in the Big Ten Championship which begins Thursday at the Varsity Tennis Center in Ann Arbor, Mich. Ohio State, the tournament’s No. 1 seed, received a first-round bye and will play its first match against the Michigan/Wisconsin winner at 10 a.m. Friday.
