Softball Defeat Pittsburgh, 8-4 – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio – After falling earlier in the day to Florida Atlantic, the Ohio State softball team (6-5)came out strong to defeat the Pittsburgh Panthers(0-1), 8-4, in the second game of the Golden Panther Invitational in Miami, Fla. Freshman Katie Chain led the Buckeyes by striking out a season-high out seven Panthera and improve to 2-1 for the season.
The Buckeyes opened the inning with a four-run rally. With two outs, Rogeanna Hottinger blasted a double over the centerfielder to score Jennifer Link and Stacy Roth. Kristine Himes followed with another double to centerfield to score Weigel and Hottinger. The Buckeyes went up 4-0.
The Panthers followed with one run in the second, however the Buckeyes posted two more runs in the top of the second off two costly Pittsburgh errors. Chrissy Fowler led off with a single to left field. She would advance to second off a Panther error. Link followed with a sacrifice fly to score Fowler. Stacy Roth reached first off a error from the shortstop and scored Smith from third. The Buckeyes led 6-1.
The Buckeyes remained in the lead adding two more runs in the fourth and clinched the game over Pittsburgh.
In her longest appearance of the season, Chain struck out a season-high seven batters to improve to 2-1 for the season.
The Buckeyes will next compete against Arkansas at 11 a.m. tomorrow in the Golden Panther Invitational.
Buckeye Notes After going 2-for-7 today, Rogeanna Hottinger has a team-high six-game hitting streak. Natalie Woods made her first appearance at second base and at bat this season. She tore her ACL last season and had not competed since last March.
Jennifer Link has a team-high .333 batting average.
Anna Smith has nine stolen bases this season, equaling her season-total from last year.
