Women’s Tennis Loses to San Diego State, 5-3 – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The No. 34 Ohio State women’s tennis team fell to San Diego State, 5-3, Tuesday in San Diego, Calif. The Buckeyes, playing their fifth-consecutive road match, fell to 7-5 on the season.
The Buckeyes jumped out to a 3-0 lead with wins at the top three singles positions. Kristy Dascoli (Jr., Bradenton, Fla.) won at No. 1, while Monica Rincon (So., Lapeer, Mich.) chipped in a two-set victory at No. 2. At No. 3, Michelle Matko (So., Aurora, Ill.) won in three sets over SDSU’s Laura Aguero. SDSU then won the final three singles matches to tie the match, 3-3.
The Aztecs swept the first two doubles matches to clinch the match. OSU’s Dascoli and Rincon lost at No. 1 to Aguero and Whitney Wells, while Sadhaf Pervez (Fr., Warren, N.J.) and Laura Maloney (Jr., Barrington, Ill.) fell, 8-3, at No. 2. SDSU opted not to play the last doubles match after claiming the victory.
The Buckeyes next compete when they travel to Madison, Wis. to take on the Wisconsin Badgers, Saturday at 10 a.m.
