Men’s Gymnastics Runner-Up at Big Ten Championships – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State men’s gymnastics team finished second at the 2000 Big Ten Championships Friday night in East Lansing, Mich. The Buckeyes had a team score of 229.500, while Michigan claimed its second-consecutive conference title with a score of 232.100. Illinois was third (229.075), followed by Iowa (227.750), Michigan State (226.100), Penn State (225.850) and Minnesota (222.850).
“We fought hard, but we just weren’t good enough today to beat Michigan,” co-captain Daren Lynch (Jr., Londonderry, N.H) said. “We will come back more determined at the NCAA Championships.”
In the all-around competition, Jamie Natalie (Jr., Hockessin, Del.) finished third with a score of 57.525 and Raj Bhavsar (Fr., Houston, Texas) was sixth with a career-high 56.425. Each gymnast earned all-Big Ten honors by placing in the top six in the all-around.
The top eight finishers in each event will compete in the individual event finals on Saturday. Natalie will compete in four events, as he scored career highs and placed first on both the floor exercise (9.900) and vault (9.825) to advance. He also qualified for the pommel horse and parallel bar finals.
Bhavsar scored a career-high 9.725 to advance in the floor exercise and will also compete in the parallel bars with a career-high tying 9.800. Lynch advanced on both the still rings and the vault, while Dick Huntwork (Fr., Pickerington, Ohio) and Michael Morgan (Sr., Cincinnati, Ohio) will also compete on the vault.
