Ohio State Softball shuts out UNC-Greensboro, 9-0 – Ohio State Buckeyes

Off the superb pitching of Kristi Martin, the Ohio State softball team shut out UNC Greensboro, 9-0, today at the Winthrop Invitational in Rock Hill, S.C. Martin completed the game, giving up only five hits and striking out nine. She now holds a 3-4 overall mark. Freshman Rogeanna Hottinger also posted a great game at bat, posting a home run and a double in the 9-0 win. Ohio State is now 12-8 overall and 5-0 in the tournament.
Ohio State opened the third inning with Hottinger doubling to rightfield. She would score off an Anna Smith Fielder’s choice. Ohio State led 1-0.
The Buckeyes added four more runs in the fourth inning as Sarah West notched a one-run single into centerfield. Hottinger followed with a three-run blast over the centerfield wall, her second home run of the season. Hottinger went 2-for-4 today and three runs batted in.
Martin (4-4) recorded the win for the Buckeyes, pitching a five-hitter, walking one and striking out nine.
The Buckeyes will take on Pittsburgh in the third round of the Winthrop Invitational, Sunday at 10 a.m. at the Cherry Field in Rock Hill, S.C.
