COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Buckeyes defeated North Carolina A&T, 11-1, today at the Winthrop Invitational in Rock Hill, S.C. With two outs in the bottom of the second, Sophomore Stacy Roth blasted a two-RBI home run to give the Buckeyes their fourth-consecutive win at the tournament. The Buckeyes will now compete against North Carolina-Greensboro in the second round.
Down by one in the first inning, Ohio State came back to post runs in the bottom of the first. With two outs and Anna Smith on second base, Roth belted her third home run of the season off NC A&T’s Jennifer Hambright into centerfield. Two batters later, Kristine Himes tripled to centerfield and sent Renae Weigel and Rogeanna Hottinger home. Ohio State led 4-1.
In the third inning, Weigel notched a one-run double to centerfield. Anna Smith followed with another double to centerfield to score West and Himes.
The Buckeyes posted six hits for seven runs in the third to their fourth win of the tournament.
Inside the circle, sophomore Jenn Elwell posted her first win of the season, completing the game, giving up only four hits and striking out three.
The Buckeyes will now compete against UNC-Greensboro at 9 p.m. tonight.
