Women’s Tennis Loses to No. 19 Tennessee, 6-3 – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Playing their third-consecutive match against a Top 25 team, the No. 31 Ohio State women’s tennis team lost to No. 19 Tennessee, 6-3, Saturday in Knoxville, Tenn. The Buckeyes, playing in their fourth-consecutive road match, fell to 7-4 on the season, while the Lady Vols moved to 10-5 overall.
The Buckeyes recorded wins at the top two singles spots. After losing the first set, No. 36 Kristy Dascoli (Jr., Bradenton, Fla.) came back to defeat No. 59 Alison Ojeda in three sets. Monica Rincon (So., Lapeer, Mich) won at No. 2, as she topped Vilmarie Castellvi in two sets, 6-1, 6-1. Freshman Katherine Martin (Kennewick, Wash.) lost a close three-set match, falling, 7-5, 3-6, 6-1 to UT’s Catherine Hall at No. 6.
The Buckeyes had two close doubles matches, as the No. 1 tandem of Dascoli and Rincon lost, 9-8(6), to Ojeda and Castellvi. Taryn Bowen (Fr., Columbus, Ohio) and Michelle Matko (So., Aurora, Ill.) won, 9-8(7), at No. 3 over Amy Bartlett and Hall.
The Buckeyes do not compete again until a March 21 match at San Diego State in San Diego, Calif.
