Ohio State’s Track and Field Athletes Earn Three Top 5 Finishes at the NCAA Championships – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State’s Andrew Pierce (Jr., Yellow Springs, Ohio) placed second in the 400-meter run at the 2000 Indoor Track and Field NCAA Championships at the Randal Tyson Track Center in Fayetteville, Ark. Today was the second and final day of competition.
Pierce broke the school record (46.12, Pierce, Feb. 17, 1999) with an incredible time of 45.99. In yesterday’s preliminaries, Pierce earned the third fastest time of 46.13, showing that he was prepared to give his all today. Before entering this weekend’s meet, Pierce’s best time of the season was 46.46, which earned him first place at the 2000 Indoor Big Ten Championships.
Yesterday, Donica Merriman (Jr., Trotwood, Ohio) topped off her indoor season with a record-. breaking performance. She placed third in the 60-meter hurdles breaking the school record with a time of 8.06 (8.11, Merriman, Feb. 12, 2000). In the 200-meter run she placed fourth with a school record breaking time of 23.50 (23.65, Bridgette Tate, Feb. 25,1989). Dominque Calloway (Sr., Aurora, Colo.) placed eight in the 60 hurdles with a time of 8.27. Ian Connor (Jr., Lexington, Ohio) placed 10th in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 14:07.80.
Today’s competition ended the Buckeyes’ indoor season. Next week they travel to Tempe, Az. for a week of outdoor training before they compete at the Baldy Castillo Invitational on March 24-25.
