Michael Morgan Named Big Ten Gymnast of the Week – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State senior gymnast Michael Morgan (Cincinnati, Ohio) was named the Big Ten Athlete of the Week, the conference office announced today. It marks the fourth-straight week an Ohio State gymnast has received the award, as Jamie Natalie claimed the honor twice before freshman Raj Bhavsar was named last week.%^$
%^$ Morgan put together a career-high in the all-around (57.475) to help lead the No. 2 Buckeyes to a comeback victory over No. 1 and defending national champion Michigan and No. 3 Illinois. In addition to placing first in the all-around, Morgan won the floor exercise (9.825) and placed second on the pommel horse (9.650) and the high bar (9.750). His high bar score was a season best and helped the Buckeyes secure the victory. Morgan recorded a season best with a 9.550 on the parallel bars.%^$
%^$ Morgan is ranked in the national Top 10 in two events – he is third on the floor exercise and ranks fifth in the all-around. Before sitting out last season with a wrist injury, Morgan earned All-America honors in the all-around and was named to the all-Big Ten team as a junior in 1998.%^$
%^$ After taking a week away from dual meet competition, the second-ranked Buckeyes (10-0) will return home to host No. 6 Iowa, No. 7 Brigham Young and No. 12 Minnesota, Feb. 19 in St. John Arena at 7 p.m.%^$
