COLUMBUS, Ohio — The Ohio State softball team hosted and improved the skills of over 300 students at the 2000 Ohio State Softball Clinics at the Woody Hayes Complex last weekend. Each year, the softball team has conducted instructional sessions in pitching, catching, defensive and offensive skills to area high school students.
The Ohio State coaching staff held six sessions through the month of February allowing students to learn from other college coaches, 2000 team members and special instructor, pitching coach Ernie Parker.
“It was a great success. We couldn’t have been any happier,” head coach Linda Kalafatis said. “We wanted to establish a great learning experience to all the athletes and we accomplished this through not only the great skill sessions, but also the interaction with the students and our team members.”
With over 30 years of coaching experience and clinic instruction, Parker led this year’s pitching sessions. He has instructed over 15 high school and collegiate All-Americans while also mostly recently coaching 1996 Olympians Lisa Fernandez and Dee Dee Weiman.
“We were very fortunate to have Ernie at our clinic this year,” Kalafatis said. “He has worked all over the world and with 30 years of coaching experience, he clearly gave these kids an influential experience.”
The Buckeyes will next head to Miami, Fla., March 3-5 for the Florida International Tournament. Ohio State will compete against Florida Atlantic, Pittsburgh, Arkansas and Florida A&M to the three-day tournament.
