Track and Field Look Ready for Tomorrow’s Big Ten Finals – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio –
The Ohio State men’s and women’s track teams competed in their first day of Indoor Big Ten Championship competition. The men are competing at Bloomington, Ind. and the women are at Minneapolis, Minn. After the first day of competition the men are tied for seventh place and the women are in eighth place.
Ian Connor is the 2000 Big Ten Champion in the 3,000-meter run. He earned today’s fastest time of 8:12.95. He also qualified for tomorrow’s mile finals (4:13.69). Andrew Pierce and Ryan Grear have each qualified to compete in two final events tomorrow. Andrew Pierce held today’s fastest time in the 400 (46.90) and the second fastest in the 200 (21.48). Ryan Grear qualified in the 60 hurdles (8.17) and the 60 (6.87). Rob Myers qualified for the 800 finals (1:52.22), Joel Brown qualified in the 60 hurdles (8.26) and Courtney Cornwall qualified in the 400 (49.30).
Today was the trial and finals for the pole vault , shot put and the distance medley. Corey Johnson finished ninth in the pole vault clearing a height of 16’00-3/4?. Aaron Bilovecky finished 20th in the shot put with a distance of 48’04”. The distance medley finished fifth with a time of 9:59.54.
For the women, freshman, Nicholette Chambers had an outstanding performance in the pentathlon with a second -place finish. She earned first-place in the 60-meter hurdles (8.84) and in the long jump (17’11-1/2?). She placed second in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:24.91. She received sixth place in the high jump (5’3-1/4?) and seventh in the shot put (35’3-1/4?).
Today’s goal for many was to qualify for tomorrow’s finals. Dominque Calloway qualified for the 400-meter run (57.14) and 60 hurdles (8.35) finals and Donica Merriman qualified for the 60-meter dash (7.35), 60 hurdles (8.13) and the 200-meter run (24.11). Rhondalynn Crawford also qualified for the 400 finals (58.04) and Mandy Osmond qualified for the 800-meter run finals (2:15.82). Today was the trails and finals for the shot put and distance medley. Erin Carter threw a distance of 43’8-1/2? and Katy Craig threw a distance of 37’6-1/2?. Neither placed in the finals. Tomorrow both will compete in the weight throw. The distance medley relay was composed of Karyn Kelly, Rhondalynn Crawford, Mandy Osmond and Alexis Schulist and the team finished seventh with a time of 12:06.55.
Tomorrow is the final day of competition, and the Buckeyes will try to work their way up to a Top 5 finish.
