Women’s Tennis Tops Cincinnati, 8-1 – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The No. 33 Ohio State women’s tennis team defeated Cincinnati, 8-1, Wednesday at the Jesse Owens West Recreation Center. The Buckeyes moved their record to 6-1 in the spring, including a perfect 5-0 mark at home, while the Bearcats suffered their first dual match loss of the year and fell to 6-1.%^$
%^$ The Buckeyes won five of six singles matches, including two-set victories by Monica Rincon (So., Lapeer, Mich.), Michelle Matko (So., Aurora, Ill.), Sadhaf Pervez (Fr., Warren, N.J.) and Laura Maloney (Jr., Barrington, Ill.). Freshman Katherine Martin (Kennewick, Wash.) came back to win at No. 6.%^$
%^$ Ohio State swept the doubles matches. The squad was led by Kristy Dascoli (Jr., Bradenton, Fla.) and Rincon, who won 8-1 over UC’s Kara Molony and Lisa Pruett at No. 1.%^$
%^$ Molony defeated Dascoli at No. 1 singles to claim the Bearcats’ only victory of the match.%^$
%^$ “Cincinnati competed well,” Ohio State head coach Chuck Merzbacher said. “They tested us in a lot of spots. I’m pleased with the win.”%^$
%^$ The Buckeyes will be back in action Feb. 25 when they travel to Minneapolis, Minn. to face Minnesota in OSU’s Big Ten opener.%^$
