Donica Merriman Named Big Ten Women’s Track & Field Athlete of the Week – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State junior track and field athlete Donica Merriman (Trotwood, Ohio) was named the Big Ten Athlete of the Week, the conference office announced today. She is the first member of the track team to receive the award this season.%^$
%^$ At the Cannon IV Classic on Saturday, Merriman earned a time of 8.11 in the 60-meter hurdles, which broke the school record (8.16) set by current teammate Dominque Calloway last year. Merriman’s time was well under the 8.17 NCAA automatic qualifying mark. She is the first Buckeye of the season to automatically qualify for the NCAA Championships held on March 11-12. In the 200-meter dash, Merriman improved her seasonal best with a NCAA provisional qualifying time of 23.94.%^$
%^$ With the indoor season closing in on the Big Ten Championships, Merriman currently holds the league’s fastest times in the 60 hurdles and the 200.%^$
%^$ The Buckeyes will host the Scarlet and Gray Invitational on Saturday, Feb. 19 at 9 a.m. in the French Field House. This will be the teams’ final meet before the Big Ten Championships on Feb. 25-26.
