Softball’s Martin Pitches Career No Hitter For 6-0 Win – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State Softball (2-0) shut out Nicholls State, 6-0, off a stunning performance from sophomore pitcher Kristi Martin. Martin posted her first career no hitter and struck out seven in her first start since May 2, 1998 for the Buckeye win.
Ohio State began the first inning with a 3-0 lead after Anna Smith notched a single into left field and stole second. Jennifer Link slapped a single to centerfield to send Smith home. Two batters later, Rogeanna Hottinger posted her first collegiate hit to right field to score Holly English and Link.
The Buckeyes followed with another pair of runs in the second as Link scored Smith and Kristi Martin off a single to leftfield. Ohio State led 5-0.
Ohio State recorded the 6-0 win after Smith singled and scored Fowler in the sixth inning.
Smith posted another great game, going 3-for-4, posting one RBI and two stolen bases. She is now 6-for-8 in the tournament.
Inside the circle, Martin, who was medically redshirted last season because of two elbow surgeries, posted a perfect game, giving up no hits and striking out seven in her first game since May 2, 1998.
Ohio State (2-0) will now take on No. 7-ranked Louisiana State at 5 p.m. in the third game of the LSU Tiger Classic.
