Ohio State’s Track Teams Show Improvements at Cannon IV Classic – Ohio State Buckeyes

Ohio State men’s and women’s track teams traveled to Indianapolis, Ind. for the Cannon IV Classic on Friday and Saturday. The Buckeyes competed against 75 teams and reached seasonal bests in 10 events.
Donica Merriman became the first Buckeye of the season to automatically qualify for the NCAA Championships. Merriman placed second in the 60-meter low hurdles with an automatic qualifying time of 8.11. She also was successful in the 200, with a third-place finish and a provisional qualifying time of 23.94.
Ian Conner’s success continued with his fourth-place finish in the 5,000-meter run, in which he recorded a provisional qualifying time of 14:00.23. Last week at Kent State he provisionally qualified in the 3,000-meter run.
Dominque Calloway, Andrew Pierce and the men’s 4×400-meter relay team all improved their provisional qualifying times, but were unable to reach the automatic qualifying mark. Calloway placed fourth in the 60 hurdles with a provisional qualifying time of 8.24. The automatic qualifying mark is 8.17. Pierce placed first in the 400 with a provisional qualifying time of 46.35, just three-hundredths of a second away from the 46.32 automatic qualifying mark. He also anchored the first-place 4×400 meter relay team, which recorded a provisional qualifying time of 3:09.82. Other members of the relay team were Courtney Cornwall, Joel Brown and Thomas Dickson.
Pole Vaulter, Rachel Zukowski broke her own school record, which she set last week, clearing a height of 11’05-3/4?. Mandy Osmond set a new seasonal standard in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:10.98.
For the men, Andrew Saurer improved his personal record with a distance of 54’08” in the weight throw. Ryan Grear improved his seasonal best in the 60-meter high hurdles with a time of 8.02.
Next week the Buckeyes return home to the French Field House for the Scarlet and Gray Invitational on Saturday, Feb. 19. This will be the teams’ last meet before the Big Ten Championships on Feb. 26-27.
