Ohio State Softball Defeats McNeese State, 8-2 – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State softball team defeated McNeese State, 8-2 to advance to the championship game of the LSU Tiger Classic in Baton Rouge, La. The Buckeyes are now 3-1 overall and will take on No. 7th-ranked Louisiana State in the championship game.
The hitting combo of Holly English and Stacy Roth allowed the Buckeyes to post the 8-2 win. English went 3-for-4 with one RBI, while Roth notched two runs and two RBI.
In the bottom of the first, Anna Smith walked to first. She then stole two bases and advanced to third. English nailed a double to left field and scored Smith. Ohio State led, 1-0.
Smith again opened the third inning with a walk, followed by English, who slapped a bunt to advance Smith to second. Roth blasted a double over McNeese State’s centerfielder to score Smith and English. Two batters later, Rogeanna Hottinger was hit by a pitch and Jenn Elwell, as the pinch runner, advanced to second on an error by the third baseman to score Roth. Ohio State led 4-0.
Ohio State almost posted a shutout, however, the Lady Colonels came back in the top of the fifth to score two runs. Ohio State answered back in the bottom of the fifth, as English and Link began the inning with singles. Both Roth and Link would score off a Sarah West’s single to right field. Himes reached base on a first baseman error and advanced to third to score West. Fowler followed with a single to centerfield, sending Himes home and giving the Buckeyes an 8-2 win. Katie Chain posted her first collegiate win and improved to 1-1 for the season. Chain, who pitched a complete game, struck out four and gave up only two runs
