Women’s Swimming and Diving Travels To Iowa City, Iowa – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State Women’s swimming and diving team (1-2 overall, 0-0 Big Ten) will compete in a dual meet with Big Ten foes Iowa and Purdue in Iowa City, Iowa, this Saturday at 11a.m.
Fleck On This Weekend
OSU head coach Jeanne Fleck said the upcoming dual-meet is important because it is the Buckeyes’ first taste of Big Ten competition.
“We have a big weekend coming up with our first Big Ten meets,” Fleck said. “It should be a great meet between Iowa and us. I think Purdue will be tough to beat in a dual-meet setting.”
Fleck said she expects Kristin Sendrwoski, along with a pair of freshman to lead the OSU this weekend.
“Krissy looks to be the leader again this weekend,” Fleck said. “Amanda Treleaven and Camilla Heglesson should help her out.”
Fleck Maps Out Season Goals
Entering her second year at the helm of the Ohio State women’s swimming program, Jeanne Fleck, women’s swimming head coach, has mapped out four goals for her team:
*First, to improve times and have swimmers qualify for the NCAA Championships.
*Second, to improve the team’s conference standing.
*Third, to improve OSU’s record in dual meets.
* Fourth, to bring the team together as a solid unit.
Sendrowski Starts out Quick
Kristen Sendrowski (Jr., Garden City, N.Y./H. Frank Carey) has won the 200 Butterfly i both at Ohio in the season opener and at West Virginia. At Ohio she captured first with a time of 2:05.06. Last week at West Virginia, she edged that time with a score of 2:04.57
Last season, Sendrowski had team best times in the 200 Butterfly (2:01.58), 200 individual medley (2:06.38) and the 400 individual medley (4:28.14) and qualified for the Olympic Trials in the 200 Fly.
Divers Don’t Miss A Beat
For the second time in as many meets this season, the OSU divers swept on the boards. Holly Underwood won the one-meter dive in West Virginia as she did at Ohio with a score of 273.50. Natalia Diea captured the three-meter dive for the second week in a row with a score of 290.80 “The divers are always important,” Fleck said. “They should help us again this weekend.”
Scouting the Boilers
Purdue heads into this weekend with a perfect 3-0 record. the Boilermakers won 14 events en route to a 210-90 victory over Miami (Ohio) in their season opener. Purdue then hosted No. 18 Notre Dame and Evansville, defeating both .
The Boilers are coached by Cathy Wright-Eger. They are led in the water by senior Gyongyver Lakos, who won four events against Notre Dame and Northwestern. (200 Free, 100 Free, 800 Free Relay, 200 Medley RElay). Missy Bromley is also was a double-winner in the 50 Freestyle and the 200 medley relay.
Scouting the Hawkeyes
Iowa comes into the meet with OSU and Purdue with a record of 0-3. The Hawkeyes opened the season with losses to Michigan and Wisconsin at a dual meet at Ann Arbor, Mich. Iowa also fell to Michigan State. The Hawkeyes are led by Melissa Loehndorf, who was a double-winner at Michigan State in the 500 and 1,000 freestyle. Becca Schwartz and Stacey Wertz are also strong in the freestyle events, as Allison Lyle is in the breastroke.
Last Year vs. Iowa & Purdue
Last Nov. 13, Ohio State fell to Iowa, 199-136, and to Purdue, 204 – 163, in Iowa City.

Next Up
The Buckeyes travel to Evanston, Ill. next weekend for the Northwestern Invite. The Invitational starts Friday morning and runs Saturday and Sunday as well.
