Buckeyes Fall in Finals of ITA Midwest Regional – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio — Ohio State women’s tennis player Kristy Dascoli (Sr., Bradenton, Fla./Bradenton Academy) was defeated in the singles final and Dascoli and partner Monica Rincon (Jr., Lapeer, Mich./West) lost in the doubles final at the ITA Midwest Regional Championships in Ann Arbor, Mich.
No. 33-ranked Dascoli, the tournament’s No. 2 seed, was defeated by No. 1 seed and No. 19-ranked Michelle Dasso of Notre Dame in the final, 6-2, 7-6(6). As finalists, Dascoli and Dasso each earned berths to the qualifying portion of the Rolex National Indoor Championships (Feb. 1-4, 2001) in Dallas, Texas.
The No. 8-ranked tandem of Dascoli and Rincon, the No. 2 seed, was defeated by No. 1 seed and No. 7- ranked Dasso and Becky Varnum of Notre Dame, 8-3. The Notre Dame tandem earns the tournament’s one bid to the National Indoor Championships.

The tournament ends the Buckeyes’ fall season. The squad opens the spring season Jan. 21 with a match against West Virginia in Pittsburgh, Pa.
