Buckeyes Advance to Finals at ITA Midwest Regional – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio — Ohio State women’s tennis player Kristy Dascoli (Sr., Bradenton, Fla./Bradenton Academy) will compete for the singles title and she and partner Monica Rincon (Jr., Lapeer, Mich./West) reached the doubles final at the ITA Midwest Regional Championships in Ann Arbor, Mich.
Dascoli, the No. 2 seed in the tournament, will face No. 1 seed and No. 19-ranked Michelle Dasso of Notre Dame in the final. Dascoli, ranked No. 33, defeated Northwestern’s Lia Jackson in the semifinal in three sets (6-4, 1-6, 6-0). Last season, Dascoli defeated Dasso in three sets in the semifinal round of the ITA Midwest Regional in Columbus.
In doubles, No. 8-ranked Dascoli and Rincon, the No. 2 seed, easily beat Indiana’s Karie Schlukebir and Linda Tran, 8-1, in the semifinal round. The OSU tandem will face No. 4 seed Larissa Chinwah and Meaghan Colville of Western Michigan for the title. The Broncos defeated No. 1 seed and No. 7-ranked Dasso and Becky Varnum of Notre Dame, 8-2, in the semifinals.
The finals will be held Tuesday, Nov. 7. The singles finalists, Dascoli and Dasso, as well as the doubles champion from the tournament, will advance to the qualifying portion of the Rolex National Indoor Championships (Feb. 1-4, 2001) in Dallas, Texas.
