Buckeyes Advance to Semifinals in Singles and Doubles at Women’s Tennis ITA Midwest Regional – Ohio State Buckeyes

%^$COLUMBUS, Ohio — Ohio State tennis player Kristy Dascoli (Sr., Bradenton, Fla./Bradenton Academy) advanced to the singles semifinal and she and partner Monica Rincon (Jr., Lapeer, Mich./West) reached the doubles semifinal at the ITA Midwest Regional Championships in Ann Arbor, Mich.%^$
%^$With her first win of the day, Dascoli broke the program record for career singles wins with her 82nd victory as a Buckeye. She broke Maria Olazagatsti’s (1977-79) 21-year old record of 81 wins. Dascoli posted two wins on the day to move her career mark to 83-37.%^$
%^$In the round of 16, Dascoli, the No. 2 seed in the tournament, defeated Northwestern’s Shannon Duffy, a 9-16 seed, in a close match, 6-4, 7-6 (5). In the quarterfinal round, Dascoli topped Becky Varnum of Notre Dame, another 9-16 seed, 6-1, 6-4. She will face No. 6-seed Lia Jackson of Northwestern in the semifinal round.%^$
%^$Two Buckeyes fell in the round of 16. Erica Fisk (Fr., Indianapolis, Ind.) lost to Cassie Haas, a 9-16 seed, 6-0, 6-2. Rincon, the No. 4 seed, was defeated by No. 9-16 seed Nina Vaughan, 6-4, 6-4.%^$
%^$In doubles, the tandem of Dascoli and Rincon, seeded No. 2, posted two wins to advance to the semifinal. In the round of 16, the OSU tandem defeated Szilvia Kelemen and Laura Taylor of DePaul, 8-6. In the next round, Dascoli and Rincon topped Cincinnati’s Kara Molony and Lyndsey Molony, 8-5. They will go up against Indiana’s Karie Schlukebir and Linda Tran in the semifinal round.%^$
%^$The OSU doubles tandem of Sadhaf Pervez (Fr., Warren, N.J./Watchung Hills) and Lindsay Williams (Fr., Beverly Hills, Mich./Birmingham Grove) was defeated in the round of 16 by the No. 3 seed, Katie Cunha and Kim Guy of Notre Dame, 8-4.%^$
%^$The tournament continues Monday, Nov. 5 with the semifinal rounds. The finals will be the following day. The singles finalists and doubles champion from the tournament will advance to the qualifying portion of the Rolex National Indoor Championships (Feb. 1-4, 2001) in Dallas, Texas.%^$
