Rincon Wins Flight #1 at Hoosier Classic Invitational – Ohio State Buckeyes

%^$COLUMBUS, Ohio – Monica Rincon (Jr., Lapeer, Mich./West) claimed the Flight #1 singles title to lead the Ohio State women’s tennis team at the Hoosier Classic Invitational in Bloomington, Ind.%^$
%^$In the Flight #1 final, Rincon defeated Alena Jecminkova of Kansas State, 3-6, 7-5, 1-0 (9). No other singles matches involving OSU players were contested in the final day of the tournament.%^$
%^$The Buckeyes posted six doubles wins on the last day of competition. In Flight #1 consolation play, the duo of Sadhaf Pervez (So., Warren, N.J./Watchung Hills) and Lindsay Williams (Fr., Beverly Hills, Mich./Birmingham Grove) posted a win over LSU’s Tami Botts and Mandy Rice, 8-4. In the same flight, the tandem of Erica Fisk (Fr., Indianapolis, Ind./Pike) and Laura Maloney (Sr., Barrington, Ill.) defeated Eva Novotna and Petra Sedlmajerova of Kansas State, 8-4. The duos each played one extra match. Pervez and Williams beat KSU’s Novotna and Paulina Casstillejos in a close match, 9-8, and Fisk and Maloney defeated Botts and Rice of LSU, 8-4.%^$
%^$In round robin action of Flight #2 doubles, Taryn Bowen (So., Columbus, Ohio/Upper Arlington) and Katherine Martin (So., Kennewick, Wash./Kennewick) posted two wins. In round two, the OSU tandem defeated Marquette’s Kristin Hosea and Sommer LaValley, 8-1. In round four, Bowen and Martin beat Amanda Devraj and Alex Stankovic, another Marquette duo, 8-3.%^$
%^$The Buckeyes next compete Oct. 19-22 when Kristy Dascoli (Sr., Bradenton, Fla./Bradenton Academy) and Rincon travel to Pacific Palisades, Calif. for the All-American Championships. Each player will compete in singles qualifying. Dascoli and Rincon, the No. 8-ranked duo, will compete in the doubles main draw .%^$
