Women’s Tennis Finishes Second Day of Hoosier Classic Invitational – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State women’s tennis team completed day two of the Hoosier Classic Invitational at Bloomington, Ind. The tournament, which includes three singles flights (Flight #3 is round robin) and two doubles flights, will resume at 9:30 a.m. Sunday.
Monica Rincon (Jr., Lapeer, Mich./ Lapeer West) overcame Petra Sedlmajerova of Kansas State, 3-6, 6-2, 1-0, in the semifinals of Flight #1. Rincon will face Alena Jecminkova of Kansas State in the finals Sunday. Sadhaf Pervez (So., Warren, N.J./Watchung Hills) defeated Michaela Gridling of Middle Tennessee State in consolation play in Flight #1, 4-6, 6-3, 1-0. Pervez will face Linda Tran of Indiana for 13th.
Claudia Castro (Jr., Dublin, Ohio/Aquinas) defeated Niger Kavr, 6-1, 6-3, in consolation action in Flight #2. Castro will face teammate Lindsay Williams (Fr., Beverly Hills, Mich./Birmingham Grove) for ninth place. Williams defeated Eva Trujillo-Herrera of Marquette, 7-5, 1-6, 1-0 in consolation action.
In round three of round robin action of Flight #3, Katherine Martin (So., Kennewick, Wash./Kennewick) defeated Alexandra Stankovic, 6-1, 6-1. Taryn Bowen (So., Columbus, Ohio/ Upper Arlington) also won in the third round, defeating Indiana’s Christina Solli, 6-4, 6-0. Martin and Bowen will play each other in round four.
In doubles action, the OSU tandem of Claudia Castro and Monica Rincon defeated Eva Novotna and Petra Sedlmajerova of Kansas State, 8-3, in the first round of Flight #1. Castro and Rincon defeated Kelly Blanch and Irina Kharun of Indiana, 8-5, in the quarterfinals. Castro and Rincon will face Manon Kruse and Stacy Varnell in the semifinals. Taryn Bowen and Katherine Martin got a bye in round one of round robin play of doubles Flight #2. Bowen and Martin face Tanja Buccheim and Niger Kavr of Middle Tennessee State in round three and Amanda Devraj and Alexandra Stankovic of Marquette in round four.
Play resumes at 9:30 a.m. Sunday.
