Women’s Tennis Shuts Out West Virgnia – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State women’s tennis team stayed unbeaten (3-0) after recording a shutout, 9-0, over West Virginia Friday in Jesse Owens West Recreation Center. The match was the spring season-opener for the Mountaineers.
In singles, the Buckeyes won all but one match in straight sets. At No. 4, Sadhaf Pervez (Fr., Warren, N.J.) came back to defeat WVU’s Anna Marie Underwood after dropping the first set (4-6, 6-3, 6-2). Ohio State’s Kristy Dascoli (Jr., Bradenton, Fla.), ranked No. 39, posted a 6-2, 6-1, victory over Ellie Earles at No. 1.
The Buckeyes also swept the doubles matches. At No. 2, Michelle Matko (So., Aurora, Ill.) and Claudia Castro (So., Dublin, Ohio) won seven of the last eight games to come back from a 1-5 deficit and beat Earles and Shannon Price of West Virginia, 8-6.
The No. 38 Buckeyes close the weekend Sunday morning when they host No. 25 Marquette at 10 a.m. in the Jesse Owens West Recreation Center.
