Women’s Volleyball Drops 3-1 Decision at Michigan State – Ohio State Buckeyes

EAST LANSING, Mich – Ohio State (6-3 overall, 0-2 Big Ten) dropped its second consecutive Big Ten match in as many nights in a 3-1 loss at Michigan State (11-3, 1-1). The 15-8, 6-15, 10-15, 5-15 loss follows OSU’s five-game heartbreaker loss at Michigan on Friday night. Against the Spartans, Rosie Snow had a match-high 23 kills for Ohio State with Shelly Draeger adding 17 and Dana Stearns 10. MSU’s Sarah Gustin scored a team-high 19 kills with 16 from teammate Erin Hartley and 14 from Jessica Sanborn.
%^$Ohio State started off the match with a 15-8 win in game one. OSU hit .316 to MSU’s .152. Rosie Snow and Dana Stearns each had six kills in the game with Snow hitting .500 (6-1-10) and Stearns .714 (6-1-7). Spartan Jessica Sanborn led MSU with four kills.
%^$Roles reversed in game two as Michigan State won 15-6 hitting .364 in the game to .143 for Ohio State. Erin Harley had five kills in the game for MSU with Sarah Gustin and Jessic Sanborn adding four each. Buckeye Rosie Snow had five kills for OSU.
%^$Michigan State continued to role in game three winning 15-10 while hitting .432 for the game to .278 for the Buckeyes. Sarah Gustin had the hot hand with eight kills and hitting .538 (8-1-13). OSU’s Rosie Snow and Shelly Draeger each had eight kills but OSU totaled nine hitting errors in the game to only four for the Spartans.
%^$Game four was won by Michigan State by a 15-5 count. The Spartans hit .321 in the game to a negative .027 for Ohio State. OSU had 10 kills, but 11 errors in 37 attempts. Jessica Sanborn and Sarah Gustin each picked up four kills in the game for the Spartans while OSU’s Rosie Snow had four kills for the Buckeyes.
%^$For the match, Michigan State hit .326 to .189 for Ohio State. The Spartans outblocked (15 to 8), outdug (53 to 48) and outserved (7 to 4) the Buckeyes. OSU held a slim 65 to 63 margin in kills.
%^$OSU’s Rosie Snow’s 23 kills along with her 32 kills Friday night against Michigan extends her streak of consecutive double-figure kill matches to 30 and moves to 995 career kills.
%^$The 14 digs by OSU’s Sue Calligaris are a career-high while Jen Flynn’s 55 assists is a season high for her.
