Track Heads Back to Florida for Tampa Invite – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State men’s and women’s outdoor track and field teams are becoming permanent fixtures in The Sunshine State. The Buckeyes will travel to the Tampa Invitational Saturday, hosted by the University of South Florida. This meet will be the third of the outdoor season for OSU, all of which have taken place in the state of Florida.%^$

%^$Ohio State will take on South Florida, Florida International and Florida State in the Buckeyes’ first scored meet of the season.%^$
%^$TAMPA INVITE PART OF SERIES
%^$The Tampa Invitational is part of the United States Collegiate Track and Field Series. The Series was generated to renew interest in the sport of track across the United States. It was established through a grant from the United States Olympic Committee. The Tampa Invitational is one of 56 meets in the series, twelve of which will occur this weekend. The Series mandates that four schools compete in each meet.%^$

%^$Each school will score in two positions in every event.%^$
%^$OSU TOP PERFORMERS – MEN
%^$Andrew Pierce (So., Yellow Springs, Ohio) is currently fourth in the men’s 400-meter dash. Pierce, who ran 45.86 at the Florida Relays March 24-27, trails only junior Michael Blackwood of Oklahoma (45.33), junior Derrick Brew of Louisiana State (45.46), and senior Jerome Davis of Southern California (45.70).%^$
%^$OSU TOP PERFORMERS – WOMEN
%^$Dominque Calloway (Jr., Aurora, Colo.), Donica Merriman (So., Trotwood, Ohio) and Ayanna Reece (Sr., Bronx, N.Y.) are all ranked among the elite in the country for the outdoor campaign. Calloway (13:30) and Merriman (13:59) are sixth and 12th, respectively, in the 100-meter high hurdles. Both women registered their times at the Miami (Fla.) Hurricane Invitational March 20. Senior Andria King of Georgia Tech still holds the time to beat at 13:01, which was set March 27. Reece’s 58.59 in the 400-meter int. hurdles March 27 at the Florida Relays is currently good enough for third in the event, behind Tanya Jarrett of Texas (56.75) and Char Foster of North Carolina (57.89).%^$
