Women’s Tennis exits from Big Ten Tournament – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Buckeyes battled hard but still lost, 5-2, to Illinois in the second of the Big Ten Tournament in East Lansing, Mich. The Buckeyes fall to 14-10 for the season, while Illinois improves to 13-9 and advances to the third round to compete against Northwestern Saturday.
Illinois would gain momentum after winning the doubles point. Kristy Dascoli (So., Bradenton, Fla.) and Briana Harris (So., Bradenton, Fla.) ousted Brooke Ferney and Carla Rosenberg at the No. 1 spot, 8-0. However, the Fighting Illini notched wins at the No. 2 and No. 3 doubles positions, to go up 1-0 in the match.
In singles, Dascoli captured a 6-2, 6-1 win over Simone King and Monica Rincon (Fr., Lapeer, Mich.) extended her win streak to four after defeating Carla Rosenberg, 6-3, 6-3. Illinois netted the victory after winning the remaining matches. OSUs Harris fell to Ferney at the No. 3 spot in a tight match, 7-5, 6-4 and No. 2 player Michelle Matko (Fr., Aurora, Ill.) lost to Stacy Shapiro, 6-2, 6-4.
Ohio State will have to wait until Wednesday, May 5 to see if its 1999 season is over. The NCAA Regionals pairings and sites will be announced that day. The top seeds of the region will compete at the NCAA Regionals May 14-16.
