Women’s Lacrosse Travels to Notre Dame – Ohio State Buckeyes

Columbus, Ohio – The Ohio State women’s lacrosse team travels to Notre Dame, Ind., this weekend. The Buckeyes will play Notre Dame on Friday at 4 p.m. and then play UCONN on Saturday at 1 p.m in Notre Dame. %^$
BUCKEYES SPLIT WEEKEND TRIP%^$
The Buckeyes rolled past Mt. St. Mary’s last weekend, 11-4. Erin Andersen and Lauren Cochran led the Bucks with three goals each. The Buckeyes then traveled to Boyertown, Penn., to play the Boston University Terriers. The Buckeyes and the Terriers played to a first half tie, but BU took over in the second half by scoring five unanswered goals. The Terriers won 11-6.%^$
SCOUTING NOTRE DAME%^$
Notre Dame enters Friday’s game with a record of 3-1. The Fighting Irish are under the direction of Tracy Coyne, a 1983 Ohio University graduate. Notre Dame is led by a powerful attack. Lael O’Shaughnessy leads the team with 20 goals. Courtney Calabrese is second on the team with 13 goals. On defense Notre Dame is led by sophomore goalie Carrie Marshall. Marshall has 38 saves and a save percentage of 43.2. %^$
BUCKEYES VS. NOTRE DAME%^$
The Buckeyes and Notre Dame have played twice before. The series is tied 1-1. Ohio State won the game two years ago at Notre Dame, 11-9. Notre Dame returned the favor last season beating the Buckeyes at home, 10-9.%^$
SCOUTING CONNECTICUT%^$
The Huskies are coached by Bonnie Rosen, the only head coach in UCONNs three year history. Through three games the Huskies have compiled a record of 1-2, with both losses coming in overtime. The UCONN attack is led by Pamela Lowie who has netted 12 goals. UCONN has dominated opponents in shots (90-49), ground balls (81-55) and draw control (30-21). Jennifer Schiavone leads the defense from the cage. She has collected 30 saves and has a save percentage of 40%.%^$

Saturday’s game marks the first time Ohio State and UCONN have played. %^$
BUCKEYE LEADERS%^$
Ohio State has scored 60 goals in six games. Celeste Cianfrani and Megan Mirick lead the Buckeyes in scoring. Cianfrani has netted 11 goals while Mirick has added 10. Erin Andersen has also contributed to the offense with nine goals. Megan Barnett has led the Buckeyes on defense. Barnett has 78 saves and a 56.9 save percentage.%^$
HEAD COACH SUE STIMMEL%^$
Sue Stimmel, a native of Boyertown, Pa., is entering her fourth season as head women’s lacrosse coach at Ohio State. She has compiled a 20-24 mark at OSU thus far, and is the only head coach in the brief history of the varsity women’s lacrosse program. Last season, against the toughest schedule ever assembled for an Ohio State women’s lacrosse team, the Buckeyes were extremely competitive in every game and lost four games by a total of nine goals. Stimmel came to Ohio State from Denison University where she guided the Big Red to a 76-24 record during her career. While at Denison, she was named NCAC Coach of the Year in 1990, 1992 and 1993. Denison won five NCAC championships and made five appearences in the NCAA tournament during Stimmel’s tenure.
