Landry Nissen Award Finalist – Ohio State Buckeyes

Columbus, Ohio – Ohio State’s Peter Landry (Sr., Lewiston, Maine) has been named one of eight finalists for the prestigious Nissen Award. Each year, the Nissen is presented to the most outstanding male collegiate senior gymnast in the nation. Landry has made a lasting impact on the Ohio State mens gymnastics program. During his four years, his accomplishments include earning All-America status last year at the NCAA Championship, defending Big Ten Champion on the parallel bars, team captain of this years squad and was also a member of the Buckeye team that claimed the NCAA National Championship in 1996 and Big Ten Championship teams in 1996 and 1997. He is currently ninth in the nation on the parallel bars. %^$
Landry joins Todd Bishop (Oklahoma), Adrian Johnston (Iowa), Jim Koziol (Nebraska), Josh Nelson (California-Santa Barbara), Stephen Pryor (Massachusetts), Ron Roeder (Penn State) and Kyle Zak (Illinois) on the ballot. %^$
Head coach Miles Avery says of the selection, “This is an incredible honor to be considered one of the eight top senior gymnasts in the country. Peter’s hard work and dedication as well as his accomplishments have proven how deserving he is of this selection.”%^$
Landry says, “I can’t even really begin to put how honored I feel to be included into words. I never expected to look down and see my name included as one of the best seniors in the country. It is unbelievable.”%^$
Ohio State has had three prior winners of the Nissen. Mike Racanelli won in 1990, Kip Simons in 1994 and Blaine Wilson in 1997.%^$
The winner of the Nissen Award will be announced in several weeks. Landry will defend his Big Ten championship this weekend when Ohio State travels to Iowa City, Iowa for the Big Ten Mens Gymnastics Championship on March 26-27.
