Women’s Tennis Lose Close One to Georgia Tech – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The No. 26-ranked Ohio State women’s tennis team lost a heartbreaking 5-4 match to No. 28-ranked Georgia Tech this afternoon in Miami, Fla. The No. 1 singles player, Kristy Dascoli (So., Bradenton, Fla.) maintained her winning ways with a victory over Sabrina Pardo, but it was not good enough for a Buckeye win.
Georgia Tech began the match strong boasting wins at all three doubles matches. Georgia Techs Pardo and Miller nipped No. 14-ranked Dascoli and Briana Harris (Fr., Bradenton, Fla.), 8-6 at the No. 1 doubles spot and Michelle Matko (Fr., Aurora, Ill.) and Monica Rincon (Fr., Lapeer, Mich.) lost 8-4 at the No. 2 position.
Down 3-0, the Buckeyes came back wth wins at the top four spots in singles. Matko, with her win over Bobbie Guthrie, 6-4, 7-6, has now notched a 13-1 record in dual matches and Harris defeated Mason Miller in a tough three-set match, 6-3, 2-6, 7-5. Yet, the Yellow Jackets grabbed the last two matches with Tamarra Jenkins defeating freshman Claudia Castro (Onlaska, Wis.), 6-4, 6-2 at the No. 5 spot, to clinch the win for Georgia Tech.
The Buckeyes dropped to 10-4 for the season and have snapped a seven-match winning streak that began on Feb. 16 against Ball State. Ohio State will stay in Miami, Fla. to compete against No.25-ranked Miami (Fla.) on Wednesday, March 24 at 2 p.m.
